Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What is the advantage of using a graduated round nose plier?
Answer: The Excelta 2843GF and 2843GC graduated round nose pliers are designed to give you 3 distinct size loops. By using the ridge formed by the graduations you are guaranteed the same size loop every time you use the same ridge. These pliers are designed with one graduated round blade and one flat (GF) or one concave (GC) blade. While I personally like the concave, it is a matter of personal choice. We sell an equal amount of both.
Question: Is it better to use a bent nose or a straight nose plier when wire working ?
Answer: This is a common question. Pliers become an extension of your fingers. There is no correct or incorrect way to work wire. Some people prefer bent nose and some prefer straight. Accessibility and comfort should dictate which type of plier to use. The more delicate the application, the more comfortable and steady you will want your pliers to be. This will help ensure precision work on your part. I recommend having one of each readily available when you start your project.
Question: I am just starting out to attempt to make my own jewelry. I've purchased some pretty beads and items to work with but I'm not really certain which tools I would need to start. Can you make a recommendation for some starter tools for a budding hobbyist on a budget? PS - If you could briefly explain each tools use I would greatly appreciate it!
Answer: Tool become extensions of your hands and fingers. Everyone has a different touch and feel. Everyone has a favorite tool. The important thing to remember is that there is really no right or wrong tool for most applications. Use what works best for you. For beginning jewelry makers I would recommend our basic EP-150 kit. This kit includes a wire cutter, a round nose plier, a flat nose plier, a chain nose plier, a tweezer and a stainless steel pick. Priced at just $29.95 this kit will allow you to find the tool that works best for you without spending a lot of money.
